SERVICE OVERVIEW

If you have solid walls with no cavity you could cut your heating costs considerably by having us fit internal wall insulation, solid walls let through twice as much heat as cavity walls do. This is because solid walls have no gap, so the heat can travel straight through the brick work.

The insulation boards we use are mechanically fixed to the internal walls of the building and the plastered over ready for decorating. Insulation boards come in different thicknesses and have higher insulation values the thicker they get.

Another plus with the insulation boards we use is they can cure condensation and mould problems in rooms which have cold walls.

POPULAR QUESTIONS

  • Can you render any surface?

An existing surface must be able to hold the rendering material in place even after it dries. Cement rendering, which is a mixture of lime, clay, cement, and sand, is best applied to cement surfaces. This can include sidewalks and retaining walls.

For other surfaces, such as painted brick, you might choose an acrylic rendering. This includes acrylic materials added to that cement mixture, which has a stronger adhesion. Acrylic rendering is often chosen for the exterior of brick homes, or for a crumbling chimney.

  • Is rendering a DIY job?

You may be able to manage a basic cement rendering of a basement area if you’re not overly concerned with the finished appearance of the rendering itself. However, rendering is often more difficult than you may realise, as you need to mix the cement materials together in the right ratio so that they stick to the surface being rendered. You also need to apply the rendering properly so that it doesn’t become too thick, or show lots of swirls and grooves. The rendering also needs to dry properly before it is painted, so that the paint doesn’t just smear and streak. This is why it’s often good to leave most rendering jobs to the professionals.

  • Does the rendering look like concrete?

Once the rendering dries, it can then be painted virtually any colour. This will prevent it from looking like drab concrete, and even give you the chance to enhance the appearance of any surface with an updated, fresh colour.

  • What is interior rendering?

A home’s interior can be rendered, with a layer of cement or acrylic rendering added over a wall or floor. The rendering can then be painted, as mentioned. This can cover over cracks and stains in a wall and give them added strength against future cracks. A rendered floor is also very strong and very hygienic, as it won’t hold dust and dirt or other debris as easily as carpeting or floor tiles that have lots of pits and pores.
